Do you ever feel stuck? You are running a great business, but not feeling like you are achieving the right goals.

You are putting too much energy into methods that just aren’t yielding results. If you are spending more time treading water and less time moving forward, consider these three steps.

1. HAVE A PLAN

While that may sound obvious, it is deceptively powerful. Having a plan means there is something guiding your day other than emergencies and standing meetings. Once you are clear on your daily goals, the things you need to put aside will also become clear.

Keep your plan up-to-date and agile. In developing your plan, you have an opportunity to take a look at yourself. Are there assumptions about your business that are no longer true? Are your internal processes still the best?

A big part of planning is your understanding of your market. Just as technology and business are constantly changing, so are your clients. Have the priorities or pains of your clients changed? If you are not evolving as their needs change, you risk becoming less relevant.

There are also proven processes available, such as The Execution Roadmap, which provides a significant advantage in finding a repeatable system for success.

2. GET BUY-IN FROM YOUR TEAM

Communicate your plan and goals to your team. Painting a picture of what success looks like creates a common goal and encourages a culture of collaboration and success.

Get everyone onboard, together. Do your senior leaders cooperate or work in silos? Do they have each other’s back or are they fighting for political advantage? Misaligned values and priorities can cripple any leadership team.

Delegate with confidence. Remember, an effective team communicates well, and that starts with you. Constantly communicating your goals to the entire organization is critical.

3. EXECUTE EXCELLENCE

Doing trumps planning. Yes, you need a great plan and a unified team, but unless you can execute well you will never see results. Poor results break team morale and make the plan meaningless.

So what have we learned? Having a dynamic agile plan, getting your team on board and focused on a common goal, and executing with confidence are real-world steps that can be taken to ensure your company is better focused on winning. Take the time now to apply these steps to your company.
