GUEST POST by John Howman from Allied Consuting Group
My good friend, Tim Dodge, turned me on to a book called Smart Brevity by Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen and Roy Schwartz. It’s excellent and (as you’d expect) short! The authors are the founders of Axios and Politco, but the tagline explains the focus of the book—The Power of Saying More with Less.
The authors point out that we are inundated with words. Somehow, we’ve equated value with length and not content.
And according to one study, by the time you go to bed tonight, you will have looked at your phone over 300 times today! And your brain decides in 17 milliseconds whether it likes something or not.
I encourage you to get the book. Smart Brevity is only 198 pages so you ought to be able to finish it by halftime of the Packers/Bears game!
In the spirit of brevity, I’ll stop here!
